Jesus' parable of the mustard seed is one of the most famous parables in the
Bible. Of all the plants He mentions in His teaching, Jesus chooses the lowly
little mustard seed, no bigger than an Indian bead, to place at the center of
one of his best known and most loved parables.

to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which
indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest
among herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge
in its branches.'" (Matthew 13:31-32)
